About Thobeka and Thobile Tana's work:
Poem Title:
Spotlight
Poem Theme:
Its centered around shining a light on women and breaking old patterns that society poses on women.
Poem Inspiration:
What inspired the poem is actually the first part of the poem, my sister really did hear a conversation of a group of guys speaking about how they expect women to show up. And so we wrote the poem around that, shining the spotlight on women to eliminate the expectations of men and society.
How long have they been writing poems:
8 years now
How they discovered their passion for poetry and word art:
In primary school, we used to have poetry books in Grade 3 and i remember how much we loved reciting from it. We would put on a little show for my grandmother reciting those poems, and honestly her reception of our recitals is what grew the love of poetry of us.
