Poem Title:

Tunnels

Poem Theme:

The theme is around mental illness, specifically depression and anxiety.

Poem Inspiration:

I was inspired to write this poem after receiving the prompt "water". Immediately I saw the image of this dark, still water and the anxiety of not knowing what lies beneath it. I've struggled for most of my life with depression and I began exploring the idea of my mind being like a series of underground tunnels with this deep, dark water. And what it may feel like to walk through that inner world.

How long have they been writing poems:

I've been writing since I was 15 years old.

How they discovered their passion for poetry and word art:

I had always been interested in reading poetry when I was younger, and doing poems in school by people like Sylvia Plath only pushed me to explore it further. I was always a big reader and loved the creative ways words could to crafted to form something beautiful. I became quite fascinated by poetry and I eventually started writing my own in the back of my high school workbooks whenever I had the chance.

1. "The Spoken Words Contest Contest" is a Competition fully sponsored by The Next Star Talent Hunt, a product of Balloon Technologies SA LTD. An Organization acting in compliance with International laws and the Laws of the Republic of South Africa.

2. It is an Online Talent Competition, which finds its operandi similar to other talent competitions like the America Got Talent show, The Big Brother Africa, MTN Project fame among others.

3. Registration to Participate in "The Spoken Words Contest" is Completely FREE. Note this.

4. Like in every other Contest, "The Spoken Words Contest" enshrines prizes for Its Winners.

1st Position: A Golden Luxe Plaque and a Monetary award of R20,000 (Twenty Thousand Rand only)

2nd Position: A Monetary award of R4,000 (Four Thousand Rand only)

3rd position: A Monetary award of R2,000 (Two Thousand Rand only)

5. Winners of "The Spoken Words Contest" are selected by a Simple-Majority Voting system.

6. The Voting system entails a transparent form of anyone visiting a contestant voting link and then voting for them. 1 vote is R7 (Seven Rands only). And anyone can vote for a contestant as much times as possible.

7. Payment made as Vote on any Contestant (while in contest and afterwards) would not be refunded.

8. In the Policy of enjoining Transparency, Live updates on scores of each Contestant, are made Public and available on the Contest’s website via https://sageatwords.co.za/contest - coupled with personalized mails and text messages forwarded to each contestant daily.

9. As by Law, Participation in "The Spoken Words Contest" is completely Voluntary and Contestant can discontinue at anytime, with the Caveat of Votes counted, being lost and not refunded.

10. "The Spoken Words Contest" acts in Good faith in Accordance with International Laws and the Laws of the Republic of South Africa.
